Jim Winnek, M.A., LCMHC

Jim is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of North Carolina. He completed his Bachelors degree in Psychology at St. John Fisher College in Upstate NY. He completed his Masters degree in Counseling at UNC-Charlotte. He has worked in the Charlotte Mecklenburg school system for almost 20 years. His primary area of interest is in children and adults who experience stress, anxiety, and depression in their daily lives. He believes there is a strong correlation between mental health and success in ones professional/academic and personal/social life. Jim also has a strong background in athletics (he is a former college football player and has coached for several area athletic teams). He sees athletics as a microcosm for struggles people experience in their everyday life.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Reality Therapy are the two approaches Jim uses to guide the client through the therapeutic process. Meeting the client where they are in their life, and then guiding them on how to move forward to where they want to go is the main focus. The client only needs to learn how to be self-aware and committed to change to experience the healthy life they want.

When Jim isn’t counseling, he is spending time with his wife, two kids and two dogs. They love all sports and anything that gets them to be active and spending time together. He feels you should live life to the fullest and when you come to a limitation, recognize it, address it and find a way to keep moving forward!
